I think of myself as a different kind of dentist. With doctorates in both dentistry and naturopathic medicine, I view the health of your mouth as part of your overall health . . . a very significant part.
To be honest, the first few years out of dental school I practiced like every other dentist in town . . . I just didn’t get it. I was blind to the fact that the way I did dentistry could have a major impact on the health of my patients.
My interest and study of natural medicine eventually opened my eyes to the connection between dental health and total body health . . . this was exciting!
My discovery started a journey that would change my life and my practice. The journey eventually lead me to suspend dental practice for 5 years while I obtained my doctorate in naturopathic medicine. Free from the constraints of my dogmatic dental school training, I was able to objectively form my own opinions. I was becoming a dental physician . . . not just a dentist.
Since graduating from the National College of Naturopathic Medicine in 1998 and completing a natural medicine residency in 1999, I have studied with some of the most progressive and open minds in medicine and dentistry. With training and experience in both conventional and alternative science, I have developed a deep appreciation for all forms of the truth . . . regardless of the source. When your mind is open, it’s amazing what you can see.
I love being a different kind of dentist . . . this is what I’m supposed to be.
